Occulus the Sea Monster has a dirty green color which matches the polluted colours of the seas. On his back are one thousand bristly spikes. He only has one eye with two pupils that constantly turn around in circles and permit Occulus to make people fall asleep.

Because he lives in cold weather and therefore cold seas, he has another way to defend himself. He can swallow whole glaciers that get into his way and then throw them back at his enemies who perish under the sheer blow of air that gushes towards them. And if it is a ship that is in its way, it turns into an ship shaped glacier.

Tentacles spring from all sides; from his hips and from his arms, between his scales and his suckers which also throw jets of poison on his opponent on a range of two thousand kilometers.

He can, of course, swim (he is the fastest swimming sea monster), but also fly. He must be careful when he flies so as not to use up too much of his flying energy because he cannot stay in the air for more than one hour, which tires him out. Do you wish to know how I found this out?

Well I’ll tell you.

It all started when I was on a little row boat, not far away from my ship, the Marina, which was calmly sailing North. I had happened to look up, when I saw it. A horrible and terrible monster, waiting, high up there. I tried to warn my crew; I shouted, I yelled warnings, I even screamed! But by the time they realized, it was too late. It was coming down, faster than anything I had ever seen. It went from one thousand feet, to five hundred to ten, to five to one… and to none. He plunged down and sunk the Marina.

Jimmy, who was on the mast of the ship, was the least fortunate; Occulus swooped him up with his huge vampire like teeth when the ship wasn’t completely under yet, and then tore him to shreds. Stains of blood garnished his viscous skin after having devoured him. I will never forget Jimmy or anyone who had accompanied me on that fatal journey…

In a time that was yesterday and eternally present, there lived a prince who had been silent for as long as anyone could remember. His mother the Queen was heartbroken at her son’s muteness and the King heartbroken at his wife’s grief. So it was that on the Prince’s eighteenth birthday, they issued a proclamation saying that any man or woman who could make the Prince speak would receive the richest reward in the kingdom. However, the penalty for those who failed would be instant death.

Many brave men and women tried to make the young Prince speak. And as many were beheaded. The King and Queen had all but given up their quest when, from the woods nearby, came one last adventurer…”-Nicky Singer, Feather Boy

I decided that I would carry on this fairy tale because I thought it was pretty good:

It was a small and graceful person in a cape. This stranger approached the castle bounds and searched for an entrance. It met a knight and asked him where to find King Joseph and his wife Queen Mary. The knight showed the stranger the way and continued. So the caped person walked to the castle gates and knocked. A guard asked their identity, and then let them in.

They went through a parting corridor which led to the King and Queen’s court. It was a big, marble room that stood on one-hundred columns.

The strange visitor looked around curiously, particularly intrigued with a bronze statue which seemed to be motioning towards some high chairs. So the stranger looked up and saw their Majesties sitting on their thrones.

I’m the little pink piggy bank. And I have a very happy life. Sitting on the blue counter, my pink porcelain shines on my soft cotton bed. My nostrils are wide open, so that I can smell the bank notes. My ears are tuned to hear the jingle of every silver coin. My mouth is big of course, so that I can gobble the money up in a single gulp. Oink oink! My lovely owner feeds me every day, from the money she gets from her parents. I’m lucky that she’s a good girl who is rewarded often.

My brother, a little blue piggy bank who was carried off, and sold to a small, and poor family. He has a very miserable life. He’s starving all the time; no crunchy little gold coins fall into his small belly. But I’m proud of my owners. They give me big breakfasts, golden syrup on soft dollars, which get slipped into my mouth hole. Who could wish for a better life?

I love it when it’s her birthday. When she goes outside to open her presents and cards, you hear things like, “a twenty Euro note!”, or, “mum! Jenna gave me 150 zloty!!”. And all that time, I wait impatiently, in her bedroom. But the best part of the year, is when my sweet little owner loses her teeth, and then, ohh my oink! All the those tasty thru’pennies, and those delicious dimes, and those fabulous francs! The tooth fairy is so very generous! I heard that when my brother’s owner loses her teeth, the mouse comes, and she doesn’t even get money! Not even a shiny shilling, as I do! She only gets a slice of cheese!

But one day I was left alone far too long with my owner’s little sister, who starred at me with envious beady little eyes. She grabbed me ferociously, turned me upside down, shook me next to her ear and suddenly decided to juggle with me. Higher and higher I went, until, zoom, bang! I smashed violently into several pieces on the cold and hard marble floor. I was rushed into the piggy bank hospital. I was glued, and stitched, and plastered. Now, I lay safely on a soft doily on a high shelf, next to my owner’s bed.

The End

When Luna regained consciousness, she found her self on a bed of white silk and when she turned her head to the right, she saw Layla in a bed identical to hers. They could hear shuffling at the door and two women dressed in white walked in. “Oh! You’re awake!” exclaimed one of them.

The two girls were staring silently.

“Would you like to eat anything? We didn’t want to wake you, and-”

“Wait, where are we?” asked Layla.

“You are in a hospital.” replied simply one of the women. Presumably nurses.

“But-but, who are you? And, how did we get here?”asked Layla.

One of the nurses smiled. “Follow me if you feel like it. There’s someone waiting for you.”

“Mum and Dad are here? Oh good. But they’ll never believe us when we tell them what happened.” said Luna. The nurses said nothing, so the two girls sat up, and followed the nurses out of the room, padding along behind them.

They were led into a room with an old man sitting in a chair. And next to him in a glass case was…

When they opened their eyes, they saw they were on some white fluffy stuff which they discovered were clouds like this:

“Ahhhhh! We’re on clouds! Ahhhhhh!” screamed Luna.

“Calm down, calm down. Anyway, the question is, how did we get here? Last I remember we were choking to death going home in a smoke coming out of a knife I found under a bush because it’s allergic to my blood. Please tell me that didn’t actually happen.” pleaded Layla

“Uh, it didn’t happen.” answered Luna.

“Oh thank you!” she looked around them. “Okay, first thing’s first. How do we get off this thing?”

“Umm, I don’t think that’s going to be a further problem.”

“Why?”

“Well, we’re not, you know, on the cloud. We’re sort of, in it. Like, we’re falling through a thick layer or clouds. And they don’t go on forever. Look.” She pointed below them. Underneath them was a a huge waterfall, crashing down and hitting a large bubbly surface of, also, water.

“Wow. That’s just… wow. It’s so beautiful.” said Layla.

“What! Are you kidding me? I nearly fell off! Get me off of here!” screamed Luna

“Shhh! Look, over there. There are so-” She was promptly cut off when they stopped falling through the clouds, and fell into the water with a loud and smacking SPLASH.

Layla and Luna were on their way home from school. It was a Friday, so they were looking forwards to the weekend. Suddenly Luna exclaimed:

“Look, under that bush, there’s something shiny!”

“What is it?”

“Wait, I’ll go and see.” Now Layla was one of these girls, who was brave and fearless and sometimes, crazy. She dived under the bush, grabbed it and climbed back out. She was holding… a knife.

“Oooh! A knife! Do you think I could kill someone with this?”

Luna looked at her in despair.

Layla through it into the air, and caught it single-handedly.

“Layla, don’t, you’ll hurt yourself!”

“God, you sound like mum. Look, I’m a natural.”

She through it up in the air a few times, until what had to happen happened. It fell and cut her finger. Not off, just cut.

“Ow! Ow, ow, ow, ow, owwwwww!”

Luna rushed over and looked at the wound. It looked pretty deep. She took the jacket she hadn’t been wearing and started bandaging up Layla’s finger. Layla jumped suddenly.

“Look!” she cried, pointing behind Luna. She spun around and saw the knife, lying on the ground. At first she didn’t notice it, but then saw a thin trail of smoke coming off the blade of the knife. She advanced a few steps and heard a noise. A sizzling sound. It was the blood sizzling on the blade, she realised with a jolt. That’s not normal, she thought worriedly. The smoke grew thicker and thicker-

“Quick, Layla, run!” she shouted. They both turned and ran as fast as they could, not turning to look back. Luna doubled-up in a fit of coughing. Layla looked behind them, and saw it was too late, although for what, she didn’t know. Only that the smoke enveloped her quickly, and she suddenly couldn’t see anything.

“Luna!” she tried to shout, but the smoke invaded her mouth and she fell to the ground choking.
